What's New At Kennett Disc Golf Course?

You may have noticed some pretty major improvements to the Kennett Square Disc Golf Course over the last 2 years as the Kennett Square Discs Club has put many hours of work into cutting back growth, repairing teepads, speading wood chips and general maintanence of the course. Well that is all going to pale in comparison to the changes and improvements that are coming in 2008!

  1. 5 new holes will be going in: 8, 9, 16, 17 and 18. These holes will be replacing holes 14-18 which have to be removed due to environmental concerns around the well-being of the stream and wetlands area. We are sad to see those holes go, but it is in a spirit of stewardship of the land and full family team-work with the KennPark Board of Directors that we do so.
  2. New concrete tees will be going in on those new holes and on several other holes which will need them for the new configuraion. In keeping with the spirit of maintaining Kennett DGC as a welcoming course to new players these tee pads will be placed in the short tee positions. We hope to either do concrete or rubber pads for the long tee positions in the near future.
  3. New pin positions for holes 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Some of these are necessitated by the entirely new holes, others are to make the permanent pins on 4 holes mobile again and others are just to add options to existing holes.
  4. The walk paths within the front nine woods are being removed, so we will have them all to ourselves. Please, as always remain extraordinarily courteous and pleasant with all park visitors. The Squares have worked very hard at building a great relationship with our fellow parks volunteers and visitors and we want to keep it strong and vital.

Newsflash

The chain and basket hardware from baskets on holes 12 and 14 have been stolen from Anson B. Nixon Park! Between Friday 5/16/2008 and Saturday morning the basket hardware, chain assembly and basket tray assemblies of holes 12 and 14 were stolen leaving only the bare poles in the anchor. If you saw anything suspicious or have any information concerning this please email me at nickkight@hotmail.com.

Our club is not a wealthy one, neither is the park, so this is a major blow to our efforts to promote disc golf. With the Throw To Know, a charity event for the Autism Society of America-Greater Philadelphia Chapter, coming up on July 12, we are in a real bind. Please do your best to ask around and help us get this very import hardware back. If you see it turn up in a buddies yard, a course near you, or anywhere please encourage those responsible to return the parts; we'll accept them no questions asked.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand how folks, especially disc golf folks, could be ignorant to all the hard work and effort the Squares have put into this course and do something like this ... Very disappointing.
