The Squares Disc Golf Club held the first monthly of 2008 on Sunday at Anson B Nixon Park, in Kennett Square on Sunday Feb. 17th.

We hosted 12 players for this informal little tournament. Entry fee was $10 and another Super Pot entry for Pros of $10 also. Ace pot option was $1. Six players were in for the pro division and all were in for the Super Pot. We also has 6 Am players which included one women player, Trish. Marc Schottle took the pro division with a 98 score and took home $80. Paul Wharton took second place. In the Am division, Tom Poplawski shot 105 and took home some nice plastic. Tom also nailed an ace on hole 11 (current 10) and took home what was left of last years Double Squares Ace Pot of $50! Way to go Tom!! Randy Kirkner took second place as he comtinues to improve his game! Trish was our only women to show and she didn't leave empty handed either. Good job Trish! Full results to come soon. Don’t miss next month's monthly. Check the schedule on this website for details.
On Saturday prior to the informal tournament, several Squares showed to set up the course for a preview of the new layout. We set out putting temporary tee pads in with logs and filled them in with mulch and wood chips. New holes were set on #8, 9, 16, 17, and 18. The new hole of 8’s tee pad is at the top of the hill just past the existing concrete tee pad of 8. From there players shoot into the woods as the fairway doglegs left. New hole 9 tee faces back out to the existing long pin of 8. From there the course plays the same but the hole numbers are moved up by one. After completion of hole 15 (currently 14), the course moves across the path. The tee for hole 16 (just past the long tee of current 15) faces the pavillion and 16’s basket takes a small turn to the right. A fairly open field hole with a couple of trees. Hole 17 has a newly cut fairway, which is a bit narrow and fairly straight. Hole 18 also has a freshly cut fairway and the pin is currently in the short position on hole 1. The baskets were only there for the day but the course layout flows nicely around and back to the parking lot. There’s a ton of work to do and KennPark is looking to have the baskets on 15-18 pulled sometime in March.
Stay tuned as there are many exciting changes happening to Anson B Nixon, home of the SQUARES!!!
