Why Be Round?

KSO

Kennett Square Open is now in the books!

On September 27th, 2008 the Squares Disc Golf Club held a PDGA sanctioned C-tier event. This was originally scheduled for September 6, 2008 but was postponed because of Tropical Storm Hanna which brought several inches of rain that day along with many cancellations from preregistered players. A last minute call to the PDGA allowing us to reschedule was in order. Friday September 26th saw a Nor'easter threaten again but this storm ran out of steam and we were able to get the tournament off with heavy cloud cover and thick humidity.

KSO 08 Ring of Fire

The Pro division held 10 players from the region with several big hitters from Sedgley Woods like Nick Schneider, Nate Krahn, Aaron Stein. Delaware's Jake Azato and Andy Vanderslice were in as well. The Squares were represented as well with Marc Schoettle and John Genter. Rounding out this division were Mike Morano, Devin Frederick, and John Henry Kane. The first round saw Jake set the tournament record of 45 for this layout to smoke the field by 6 strokes! Nick Schneider followed up with 51. The second round saw Nick S, Nate K and Mike M making a run at Jake with score of 47, 48 and 49 respectively while Jake held on to win the division by 2 strokes with a final round of 51.

Anson B Nixon Disc Golf Course

Seen below in RED is our current layout. Some of the hole in BLUE are in place as well. The Squares Disc Golf Club has made some big changes this past year since the part decided to eliminate hole 15 through 18 to make way for an evironmentally friendly walkway. Thankfully the park has worked with the disc golf community to replace these four hole by allowing us to install new holes. While much of the work is done, the Squares Disc Golf Club will continue to work to make this course beginner friendly and also challenging for the season player as well.

(Course to date. Current Layout Pin Positions are: 1 S, 2 L, 3 L, 4 S, 5 S, 6 S, 7 L, 8 S, 9 L, 10 L, 11 L, 12 L, 13 L, 14 L, 15 S, 16 L, 17 L, 18 L. This is as of 8/22/08)

New Holes Are In!

It is done. The move we've been talking about for all these month has finally been completed. The course now has new holes 8, 9, 16, 17 and 18, and has subsequently lost holes 8, 15, 16, 17 and 18 from the old course. The Squares hope that you like the new holes and will join with us to continue to improve the course.

Special thanks to the Squares Greg Ramirez, John Genter, Eric Naylor, Jeff Moore, myself and honorary Squares Norse from Excellon and Richard Lyons from the Park Board for all their hard work in doing a monumental amount of work to get this all done in one day.

Come on out next Tuesday to check it out at Double Squares. It's spring baby!

Newsflash

Cheif wins 2nd Monthly! Greg Ramirez put together two solid rounds to win the second monthly of the year. I've been playing DG for nearly 30 years and I don't think the weather has ever been worse than it was last Saturday for our second Monthly Squares. We stuck it out and finished the last two tournament rounds ever on the old course, as the course has moved to it's new home in the woods behind the pavillions. More details to follow.
